Still The Fires Burn

Filed under: Poetry — migueltio @ 9:45 pm

Out in Colorado

the fires burn

taking land

taking homes

as the flames

every dream

every memory

more we learn

that we are blest

for what we have

while whole communities

So many worry

about a few dollars

being taken off their overpriced

diamond studded

cash collars

they act as if

their arms have been

stripped from their sockets

because they would rather

keep stuffing insurance companies’ pockets

away from the healthcare needs

of others they turn

while out in Colorado

the fires do burn.

So many do not see

the value of life

they waste what is good

they bask in the strife

they blame

not themselves

for failures and faults

while at others

they rage

by taking bath salts

they do not see the good

to which they could turn

while out in Colorado

the fires do burn.

God Bless

all the people

of Colorado Springs

who escape

for their lives

time treasured things

may they all

be sheltered

under the great eagle’s wings

may the flames

become less

with each day

God brings.

  1. Wow, Miguel, that was well expressed. One of my readers is in Colorado & so close to the fires. An excellent post.
