Our Efforts In Progress

Filed under: Poetry — migueltio @ 12:12 pm

To put out fires

we put on suites to

show who we think we

are what we think we

do where we think we

may go.

We walk maybe three

blocks of indecision before

we decide that we are

toward the right direction

or if we need to change reflection

of the images preserved.

In the smoke we are lost

without a foundation as

our soul falls flat

on the cement we

leave behind as

our feet stagger on.

Each grain we cross

further is a mile more

than the widest river

we ever thought was

worth wallowing across

with our eyes focused ahead.

As dusks and dawns

pass on with each

rotation upon the

daily axis we labor

through the dead needles and

cracked sidewalks of

fallen past expectations.

Our labors are illustrated

In those sidewalks we step

over by the blood of

our heel by

the sweat of our brow by

the drops of our anguished tears.
