Subway Gal

Filed under: Poetry — migueltio @ 4:47 pm

She rides many
stations many platforms
going by as throngs
enter throngs depart
“standing clear of the
closing door.”

She sits among the
others longing to know
them craving to have
what they have or
go where they are going
being with whom they are with.

She watches a couple
making out madly remembering
when she
she and Manuel
did the same from 110th
up to Mott Haven.

She dreams of promotion
in her dead end job
that takes her
these many hours
along these rails of
back and forth.

Back and forth
departing from and
returning to her apartment
she wishes she could leave
behind as well as her landlord
whom she does not trust.

After a long draining day when
her boss was extra moody she
slowly shuffled to the exit when
an artist on board handed her
a pencil portrait he just drew
proving to her that she IS beautiful.
