Beams Of Memory

Filed under: Poetry — migueltio @ 4:01 pm

Beams of wood possessing
a lifetime of memories
four floors of decades
past generations
through decades of
prosperity decades
of depression decades
of hard saved
wartime rations.

Beams of wood possessing
indentations not seen by
the naked eye of many
steps taken across many
hours of many days climbing
and descending the
stairs crossing the
floors of rugs, tiles, or
boards moving with the
realities of many moments
lived.

Between the beams of
one floor to the
next many nights spent
slumbering deeply dreaming
of each glorious day ahead
after having earlier
evenings elapsed
deciphering the thoughts
of plans or dreams
to come.

Beams of wood possessing
benchmarks that changed
the world from wars
started and later ended
while presidents died
new ones chosen
prices inflating and gas
supplies frozen space shuttles
exploding while inflation’s
pockets loading and local
games lost and won
withing the walls connecting
these beans was a long
legacy of love, sadness,
seriousness, and fun.
