A New Cold

Filed under: Poetry — migueltio @ 3:50 pm

A new coldness
its presence known
surrounding me
chills upon my
shoulders down my back
present behind me
I cannot face it
I will not face it
though I tremble
as if it still touches me.

I tremble knowing
it is there weaving
its way about me
about everyone
else I can see
they all know
it too
sometimes chills feel
good sometimes I
tremble with a heart
full of joy not
now this trembling
this chill is eating
away at those who
actually let it in
they the ones
who have had the
guns to schools they
brought them in.

Upon my knees
I fall with hand
over heart like when
I am warm with gladness
or pleasurable thoughts
these thoughts these
prayers these pleas
to warm the hearts of
those so cold who acted
so selfishly bold
as to bring guns to school
some having used them
some who did not
their intentions stirring
within the same pot
sitting cold
having not
a sense of
warmth a
sense of love
that life is
a gift from
God above
to whom I pray
upon this day
keep children safe
keep the guns away.

  1. hope summer will melt it away from your world!
