My Day in NYC!! 7/23/16

  1. what awesome photos! i love all the artwork and murals you saw. It’s so fun seeing NYC through another person’s eyes! i’m going to start noticing the graffiti more. i tend to just walk by without taking a close look. You’ve inspired me to appreciate the beauty and artistry of it! and i love your glasses!

    • ❤ ❤ ❤ Here is a piece I wrote back in 2012 after one of my annual trips to NYC.

      Same Me Different Town

      Seeing a New York

      that many I know

      do not know

      the places I go

      they do not go

      they are not

      Yankee Stadium

      not a Broadway show

      not a huge store

      that starts F.A.O.

      from a piraguero

      I buy a tamarindo

      compro mas musica

      en El Barrio

      toco un clase

      al Museo

      and catch up with friends

      at El Paso.

      One friend is a singer

      another an

      they reach out to many

      making them glad

      that it

can be a happy day if

they do the best they can

      with it

      being tougher times

      for any woman or man

      in it.

      My vision of Nueva York

      is open and wide

      as I venture to yet

      another non-commercial

      side down to Union Square

      an artist shows

      her pride buy selling

      and displaying all her

      talented stride.

      New York has

      so many colors and faces

      so many sounds and

      sights all over

      the places

      it is more than

      over paid pinstripes

      running their bases

it is a heart full of

      life with different

      genres and paces.

    • Since 2005 I have taken an annual bus trip to NYC in the summer. Its been with different buslines that run what are called “shopper busses” where you basically buy a ticket and on the scheduled Saturday are dropped off in Manhattan and have roughly 8hrs do do whatever you want, wherever you want, as long as you are back by pick up time. They call them shopper busses with the assumption that you are going to “shop til you drop” as opposed to other bus trips to NYC that have an agenda like “Liberty/Ellis Islands and the 9/11 site etc….” I’ve met friends who are available, at times, over the years. Next winter I’ll be looking up the dates for next summer’s trip. xoxoxoxo
