Those Carolina Summers

Filed under: Photography, Poetry, Uncategorized — migueltio @ 8:10 pm

DSC03841I remember the haze.

I remember the days

in the haze

when we and everybody

else would get up early and go

about our morning ways

The drive on over to

where everybody plays

fixing our gaze

on the coastal

craze making sure we

got off before the heaviest

rays fried us up like a

barbecue with Carolina

Those hotter than blazes

hot summer days

when everybody crowds

the beaches of the coastal

resorts, the inlets, the

islands, the bays,

are NOT a short term

passing phase

but a three month

feast by the UV Rays

where the skin

if left unscreened

For Greater Good

Nature sometimes

needs technology

and technology

is beautiful when

it helps nature

endure and prosper.

When the right minds

get together

and learn how much better

a plant can be tended

to and harvested for

greater good for greater

that is one example of when

technology too

is beautiful.

Things are not so beautiful

when mass plantings for

mass production cause

mass sickness and mass

destruction all in the name

of a marketed label that

serves an empty future

to a household table.

Let machines and gadgets

evolve but let the products

of nature do the same in

ways that add to a greater

natural good

not a tasteless

33 45 and 78!

Filed under: Photography, Poetry — migueltio @ 10:11 am

dsc03345Round and flat

most are black

some are larger

each side with four

or five

some are smaller

each side

one track.

Little by little they went away

with no one thinking

they would be back

such a loss of the art

of the cover so many

like a portrait or a

mural or a scene

all masterpieces so beautifully

designed on a cardboard

perfect square even

‚ÄúThe White Album‚ÄĚ was a great

expression so minimal

so bare.

Then they wanted everything smaller

they wanted their music

more compact thinking that

in the new ‚Äúdigital age‚ÄĚ to

more consumers a smaller

disc they could

Previously made covers were

re-printed but new art was

not being created the new cd

was too small for its cover to be

like a work fit for a museum wall

credits, notes, and song inspirations

were hardly written

or not present at all.

Now out the bins

of the background and

underground’s collectors

they have been recovered

they have been uncovered

they are popular again

they have been rediscovered.

The Towers I remember

Filed under: Photography — migueltio @ 1:43 pm

I photographed The World Trade Center on 3 different occasions in life.

The largest on the left was taken when I was 12, in 1981, while we were on the Circle Line Cruise Boat that goes all the way around the entire island of Manhattan.

The top right with the towers far away is a view from a shuttle between Newark Airport and Kennedy as we were on our way to LA in October of 1982.

The bottom right was taken aboard the boat going to Liberty Island in June of 2001, just months before 9/11.

I will never forget them, or the many who perished on that day.
